Photography has been a lifelong passion and vocation for me, and my pictures are regularly exhibited in Germany and France. As an artist, I also work with typological photography and portrait photography according to August Sander.
The places where I photograph are determined by my biography. I am German, live in France and have ancestors in Africa. I am a geographer and teacher by profession. Over the years, I realised that I live for photography. I work mainly in Toulouse and Cologne.
As a geographer, I am very interested in how nature has been altered by people; dynamics that I capture with my camera. My documentary work is often interwoven with artistic, creative ideas. I tell local, ecological and human stories that often have a global dimension.
In April 2023, my first photo book ‘Quand même / Anyway /Trotzdem’ was published in France. The portrait series, which I photographed during the first lockdown in Toulouse in 2020, reflects this special time that changed global paradigms and people's lives in many ways.
For several years I worked as a still photographer for feature films and WDR. In the 1990s I assisted several photographers (photo design, studio and film still photography) in Fürth and later in Cologne.
New art project “Deep Feminine”
Since spring 2023 I’ve been working on a multi-media visual art project on the Deep Feminine.
Earthkeeping
Earthkeeping is a metaphor for someone who cares about a healthy environment, both physically and spiritually. “Living systems form part of a larger cosmology of wholeness that enabled our universe to give birth to life, and enables life to evolve the universe of which we form part.” (Annaloes Smitsman)
